Dear members and friends,
Welcome to the Hong Kong Mediation Society (HKMS). As President, I am honored to share our mission and vision with you.
Over the past five years, HKMS has grown from small, case‑by‑case pro bono projects into a society recognized for its contributions across education, community, and professional practice. Today, we stand alongside respected institutions — from schools and universities to professional and accredited bodies — in advancing mediation as both a discipline and a life skill.
Yet our roots remain unchanged. We continue to believe that mediation is not only a professional tool but also a way of living — empowering individuals, families, organizations, and communities to resolve conflicts with empathy, respect, and collaboration.
Through educational workshops, training programs, and outreach initiatives, we strive to equip people with the skills to navigate challenges and build stronger, more resilient communities. At the heart of our mission is a commitment to social harmony, where dialogue triumphs over division and understanding replaces discord.
As Hong Kong faces demographic change, HKMS is proud to be recognized as a leading authority in Elder Mediation. Our Elder Mediation Development is guided by Co‑Directors uniquely accredited by both the Elder Mediation International Network (EMIN) and the Family Mediation Canada (FMC). Alongside my own formal training in Elder Mediation essentials, this leadership ensures HKMS remains at the forefront of supporting families and communities with dignity, respect, and professional standards.
I invite you to explore our website, learn more about the transformative power of mediation, and join us in this movement. Together, we can cultivate a future where mediation is woven into both professional practice and everyday relationships, creating value for all.
Sincerely,
Aaron Lau (劉正剛先生) President, The Hong Kong Mediation Society (HKMS)
Founded in 2021, the Hong Kong Mediation Society (HKMS) was established by professionals from diverse fields — law, accounting, education, engineering, property management, housing planning, and personal development — united by a shared vision of fostering social harmony in Hong Kong.
From our early beginnings with pro bono projects, HKMS has steadily grown into a recognized society contributing across education, community, and professional practice. We are dedicated to promoting mediation as a constructive, non‑confrontational way to resolve disputes, not only within industry but also in everyday life.
Through workshops, training programs, seminars, and academic research, we equip individuals, families, organizations, and communities with practical skills to navigate conflict with empathy and collaboration. By planting the seed of mediation across society, we aim to build resilience and strengthen relationships at every level.
All our founding members are accredited mediators and experienced dispute resolution professionals. Several of our mediators are formally trained in Elder Mediation, ensuring families and organizations receive specialized expertise to meet the challenges of Hong Kong’s aging society. Together, we continue to expand mediation’s role in Hong Kong — bridging institutions, professional bodies, and grassroots partners — while remaining rooted in our mission of harmony and understanding.
“To promote mediation as an interdisciplinary skill where people can incorporate into everyday life.”
To achieve such goal, the Hong Kong Mediation Society (HKMS) promotes mediation through events, seminars, and training.
Mediation is key in bringing harmony and social cohesion in society.
Given that division in our society has been increasingly visible in recent years, HKMS firmly believes the promotion of mediation to general public is of utmost importance in reducing social tension.
Our values define us. As mediators, our core values include self-determination, impartiality, confidentiality, safety, and integrity. Changing social landscape also prompts the importance of inclusion and diversity in our society.
We believe mediation transcends mere dispute resolution; it fosters deeper interpersonal relationships by promoting appreciation and respect for diversity.
Through active listening and empathy, HKMS encourages the cultivation of an inclusive environment, enriches personal connections, encouraging collaboration and respect.
