Highlights:
Our seminar in collaboration with HK Nang Yan College on April 12th was a success. Despite stormy weather, over 50 participants joined us to explore the vital topic of elder mediation. The session emphasized how mediation can reduce stress in family systems, enhance communication, and delay the need for institutional care by fostering dialogue between older adults, family members, and caregivers.
Key Takeaways:
- Paraphrasing and validation ensure older adults feel heard and respected.
- Maintaining an open mind fosters dialogue across generations and reduces bias.
- Effective conflict resolution techniques help families balance autonomy, safety, and care.
- Emotional intelligence and empathy strengthen trust and reduce intergenerational tension.
- Impartiality allows diverse needs to be acknowledged without personal bias.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all participants for their openness and contributions. Their enthusiasm underscored the relevance of elder mediation in today's ageing society. By supporting initiatives like this, institutions can empower families to navigate caregiving, succession, and autonomy with dignity. Together, we are making strides in fostering understanding and connection between generations, while promoting aged rights such as healthcare access, financial security, and freedom from discrimination.
